Looking for freelance online jobs in South Africa? Wondering how you can become a freelancer? I’ll teach you everything I know about online jobs, working as a freelancer, and earning money from home. No matter where you are in the world.
After losing our home, car, and dignity in 2008, and after a stint of couch surfing for almost two years, I decided NO MORE.
During that time, I tried everything. From selling Herbalife, insurance, and software, to home loans, I’ve done it all. But nothing “worked for me” (until I rolled up my sleeves and got to work).
In December 2009, I started working as a freelance writer online, earning R9 for 1000 words. It could easily take me a day to write that article those days… That’s usually the going rate for freelance jobs online for beginners.
In February 2011, I joined Upwork (it’s not an affiliate link – relax!), and soon received my first payment in exchange for freelance work from home jobs.
That was just the start of a long, hard slog. See, it’s a dog eat dog world out there, and I didn’t have anyone to teach me what to do; to show me the ropes.
Sometimes a client knew exactly how little I knew about a certain task, but they would strongly encourage me to take the job anyway. Well, I was in no position to turn down money. And I’m glad I didn’t. Those gracious clients afforded me invaluable learning opportunities.
Fast forward 10 years and I’m sad to say that I have been turning down a lot of interviews for online jobs lately, because I’m tired.
And I want to achieve MORE, better, things. I want to leave a legacy. I don’t want to die knowing that everything I learned was just… wasted.
That’s when this plan was born out of sheer frustration, on January 21, 2021.
When I realized that so many people have lost their jobs because of the Covid-19 pandemic, I knew that I could fulfil my greater goals while helping people to make a career shift. It made me realise that I could teach people everything I know and provide freelance jobs online from home.
On the 11th of February, 2021, I received this:
You Can Bypass the University of Hard Knocks
Thankfully, I met some awesome clients along the way. They trusted my skills, and thought I’d be good at what they wanted me to do.
I trusted their instincts, which in turn helped me believe in myself.
Today, I’m a professional digital copywriter with proven skills in copywriting, SEO practices, and online marketing in a $1.2 TRILLION industry that is growing day by day.
- I’ve earned more than $90,000 on Upwork alone (not counting direct customers, referrals, and other private work done via other freelance platforms – which is probably at least double that.)
- I’m a Top Rated PLUS freelancer on Upwork.
- And I have more work than what I can handle on my own.
There’s an opportunity here for anyone who can string two sentences together, has access to fast, reliable internet, and a laptop or desktop computer. This opportunity is NOT doable without that.
Which brings us to the reason why I’m writing to you… If you’re still looking for work, I’m prepared to provide you with the free mentorship you need to get into my line of business.
How to register as a freelancer in South Africa?
You could just find freelance platforms that advertise freelance jobs from home, but unless you have a decent portfolio these days, people just don’t hire. My goal is to help you build your skills while you build a portfolio.
There’s a language barrier…
When I met my hubby, Wade, in 2000, I could not speak English. I was an Afrikaans poppie from a small town in the Free State. And he hired me to do tele sales in English. Fun times…
Then there was the time when a well-intended (but misguided) individual told me that that I could not write. And that nobody would ever hire me and actually pay me to write.
But I learned the hard way to trust my own instincts. Don’t believe what people tell you about your skills and your willingness and ability to learn.
The Afrikaans poppie recently found a niche for her hubby in ContentCafe, and he’s happy to report just over R15,500 in earnings (Dec 20 – Feb 20). That’s on an extremely limited part time basis.
It may not seem like a lot of money to most people. But it’s tough times and you take what you can get. Being Lizette’s husband is a demanding vocation, so I have only about two hours a day left over to make some income on the side. But anyone can learn with the way Lizette teaches and the system she has put together. I’m not being biased when I say she’s a genius.
Awh, sweet… <3
Nah, I’m kidding. I made him say that. I’m pulling your leg. 😉
Okay – back to business. I’m going to show you how to overcome the language barrier between people from different cultures and geographic borders, between corporates and their clients, and between you and your community.
My plan is as follows
Everyone starts in the same place.
I’d like as many people as possible to go through the application and skills verification process – it’s extremely simple if you have the right tools (internet, computer) and teachability.
The top applicants will be chosen to proceed to the next level of training. This step is aimed at you completing tasks that will give me some idea of your strengths and weaknesses.
Don’t worry if you’re a bit bad at writing. I have LOTS of work, including translation, transcription, design, marketing, SEO, social media, web development, training, public relations, and much much more available. My goal is to (eventually) find at least 5 remote and part or full time employed people to run each department – current and future – at ContentCafe.
Why would you want to complete this internship?
- It’s a truly no-risk mentorship opportunity. The worst thing you can do is actually learn a new skill that becomes your passion. Or maybe you waste a few hours on a creative pursuit. You can stop whenever you wish to. Or you could stick around until…
- You are equipped with the skills and knowledge to start earning decent money.
- Around your own schedule.
- From anywhere – your home, your shared workplace, or the beach. (Seriously, I’m sitting here in shorts and a t-shirt with music playing, and birds singing outside my window. It really is possible.)
- Apart from your internet, it needn’t cost you any money – time? Yes. Commitment? Oh, plenty. Frustration? You bet! But I’m only now starting to pay for tools in order to bring this mentorship programme to fruition.
Bring Realistic Expectations
The system is primitive right now as it’s evolving as and when I have time to build. But rest assured that it is a massive priority for me.
Yes, I’ll earn less money on each job (since I’ll have to pay you), but I will be able to take on more work because I’m helping people like you and anyone with drive to earn money in the process.
I will have more time to pursue my future career goal: combining ALL THE STUFF I’ve learned over the years with my desire to make a difference in this world and turning people into rockstar freelancers earning gang cash.
It doesn’t matter if they have limited time, minimal skills, and a massive language barrier. I had the same issues when I started. But today I know enough to mentor you on your road to freelance superstardom.
Don’t measure your income potential based on my results. You might be more skilled or a better learner than me when I started. You might be a more likeable person with fewer internet issues.
The system is set up to the point that you can get the basics (verification and your first test assignment) done.
From there, we will work through each module step by step. There will be modules on each area we will be working on. You’re free to choose which modules you want to pursue as they become available to you. I’d encourage you to follow all of them to give you the most comprehensive overview of the industry from my perspective, and therefore, access to all kinds of remote / freelance jobs as they become available.
Some of the modules covered in my training include:
- business management
- virtual assistance
- budgeting your business
- marketing & customer service
- social media marketing / advertising
- web design / development
- graphic design
- business psychology
- portfolio building
- affiliate marketing
- marketing video creation
- brand management
- and more.
And I’ll be learning new things at the same time, and expanding my own skills and competency in the process. Obviously, that will be passed on to you too if you show a willingness to learn.
The sooner everyone up levels their skills, the sooner I can stop turning away work and start focusing on growing our business(es).
There will be individual mentorship and group training (likely on Facebook) for those who show the most commitment and skills improvement.
Would you like to grab this opportunity to write for us?
This is an internship – NOT a paid opportunity. However, you will receive complete training as well as exposure in exchange for the no-nonsense training that developed over 11+ years. That’s right. I’m going to (over time) teach you everything I learned in all these years to become a skilled, well-paid online professional.
And I will train you step by step until you’re ready to take on some freelance jobs from home on your own.
Here’s what you need:
- You need RELIABLE access to internet (ADSL / LTE / FIBRE).
- You need an email account that you check at least once a day.
- You need a computer that is in good working condition. You cannot do this work on a phone or tablet.
Why am I doing this?
You’ve guessed it. My freelance online business expanding. Due to the pandemic, there’s a massive influx of online jobs for South Africans.
We’ve reached that anxiety-inducing, yet blessed plateau where we’re between a rock and a hard place; where we have almost reached capacity… Not so easy when we’re trying to provide our clients with exceptional service while not burning the candle at both ends – at least, not every night.
That’s where YOU might fit in, if you’re a writer looking for freelance typing jobs or to learn new skills, or if you’d like to be trained to become an online professional in one of the many different fields.
We’re looking for writers who can write us guest blog posts. If your post(s) perform well, we will teach you how to use the exposure you receive to grow your portfolio.
See this as a part time internship. We will provide training as needed to successful applicants. Promising candidates will get first dibs at available exposure (initially) and paid (later) projects.
And as our business grows, we will certainly put all promising candidates’ names on our list of recommended writers or assign paid projects to them…
We have BIG plans!
And the quicker you get involved and get to work, the quicker we will all be earning more money.
Are you ready to apply?
