What if you make a mistake? Will it go in my book?
There is a 5% window for error, and we are more than happy to admit and repair it during phase 4. Please point errors out to us, because we take pride in the work we put out there, but we are human.
Why is editing so expensive?
As you can see, we follow an intensive process to prepare your book for publishing.
Do I really have to hire an editor?
Yes, you do. All books should be professionally edited. [Reasons here…]
Can’t I just use beta readers?
Not if your book matters to you. Beta readers perform a different function to editors. Beta readers typically only read a chapter each to see if makes sense. They do not check for:
- Check general grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence construction, tenses, prepositions, number, and concord.
- Style and consistency.
- General, which includes the two most common errors – apostrophe and quotation marks, run-on sentences, word use errors, and other issues that affect readability.
- Language consistency (UK / USA English word choices and grammar)
- Or anything else an editor checks.

I really want my book published, but can’t afford editing. How can I save some money on the editing process?
Amazon is becoming increasingly strict on the quality of the ebooks they publish, in a bid to improve the reputation of the self-publishing industry. It’s in yours and my interest to support their bid by delivering quality reading materials. Read The Editor’s Guide to Writing a Book on a Shoestring Budget.
What if I want to make more changes?
We ask that you please only submit your manuscript to us when you are 100% happy with what you have written (in its pre-edited phase). Make notes of anything you want to add / change on a separate document, and add it to the edited manuscript when we return it to you.
I’m worried that you’ll change my book too much…
That’s a valid objection for many authors, and we get it. However, we are independent editors. We don’t work for large publishing houses, and we respect your creative genius. We will only improve on your own personal style, not change it. Plot and other suggestions are completely obligation-free and will be marked in comments so that you can apply the changes, if you agree.
Do I have to send it back to you after I have made my changes?
It is not compulsory, however, if you add more content and you’re unsure that it meets quality writing standards, you may want to consider it. We ask that you please highlight the additions on the final copy of your manuscript and return it to us. You will be charged an hourly rate for the time spent, based on the discrepancy between the manuscript we returned to you and the final word count of the document you return to us.
